It was a landmark $1.2 billion deal that was signed in 2010. It opened up several new opportunities for Televisa. One of these was the expansion of the market. This is because Televisa was allowed to broadcast to the homes of Hispanics who were residing in the United States. Next, it could share ownership with Univision as there were three seats reserved in the Board of Directors for people from Televisa At this time, Univision was going through a financial crisis. They were suffering from debt. Besides, they had many layoffs too and were close to getting bankrupt. This is why the company opened up and allowed other companies to buy some part of it. Hence Televisa stepped in and bought some part of it. This deal was a win-win situation for both the sides. Televisa made profits. Univision was able to reclaim its presence among the Hispanics in the United States.
Televisa owns 49% of Univision today. Soon they would be the majority shareholder of this company. Besides, their programs are doing well too. Their viewership ratings are good across all households. The quality of reception is good too. The founder of Univision was the grandfather of the current chief executive officer of Televisa, namely, Emilio Azcarraga Jean.
