Seeking Alpha Helping us Understand Former Hedge Fund Analyst Sahm Adrangi

Seeking Alpha is an online financial investment publication that allows its editor to research and share some of his/her research and ideas on financial investments to watch out for. The publication has grown over the past few months attracting a number of readers including the now retired hedge fund investor, Sahm Adrangi. After reading a recent article titled, “An Ode To Those Who Wander,” Sahm Adrangi reached out to the editor, and the two were able to catch up and discuss the twelve years career life of Mr. Sahm Adrangi before he took a sabbatical.

According to the Seeking Alpha publication, Mr. Adrangi is described as a hard-working investor who earned most of the successes he enjoys in the market through networking and hustling his way. After graduating from Penn State, Adrangi was able to land a credit intern position at NYC’s Merrill Lynch office. Despite being admitted for one year, Sahm was able to spend three years, thanks to his dedication and hard work. At Merrill, Sahm worked at the trade credit and the bond desk, gaining valuable experience.

After Merrill, Mr. Sahm joined the then $3 billion Longacre hedge fund where he got to grow the company with his trade credit experience. Other than Longacre, Sahm has also worked with Paulson & Co’s credit team helping them make $6 billion on short mortgage bonds. Before leaving Wall Street investment, Sahm also worked with Bowery Investment Management, LLC. Although he had a successful career at Wall Street, the celebrated investor decided to call it quits citing the high paced New York City’s life as one of the reasons for his decision.

American Institute of Architects Highlights The Importance Of Water In Planning And Building

Water is crucial for life. This is why American Institute of Architects president, Thomas Vonier recently penned an entire article in Architect Magazine for the American Institute of Architects about the role water plays in our lives. He began by mentioning that communities at home and across the globe are facing issues that revolve around water. Vonier highlighted the fact that in the United States, communities in states such as New York, Texas, Louisiana, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and even Missouri have witnessed devastating effects from floods. The damage from such water induced events is epic and more catastrophic than ever before.

The American Institute of Architects also believes that rising sea levels are a major problem that will be upon us in the future. This effect will be especially prominent in Florida, which has a large coastal population. The state also has low elevations near the coast. Florida will also face threats to its fresh water supply system as rising sea levels will threaten the integrity of its groundwater table.

Thomas Vonier from the AIA does have some good news however. Architects can play a major role in how we mitigate the risks and impacts from climate change such as rising sea levels. He says that architecture can help us solve many of the problems we face such as rising carbon levels, deforestation, urban sprawl, a rise in sea levels, global warming and an increased strain on natural resources such as water.

The American Institute of Architects believes that new and innovative designs will be required to tackle these issues. Changing how we view development is another major change that the American Institute of Architects promotes and forecasts for the future. We need to view building, planning and architecture from a lens of sustainability and not just costs and ease of construction. External factors such as rising temperatures and sea levels can also not be ignored, especially in coastal areas.

Robert Ivy, is another prominent figure in the architectural world who works alongside Thomas Vonier at the American Institute of Architects. Mr. Ivy serves as executive vice president of the association and is also the chief executive officer of the group. One of the key goals of Robert Ivy is to bring about awareness to architects across the world on the important role they can play in helping society deal with the challenges of climate change. Mr. Ivy has a strong background in sustainable and green design and has overseen publications such as the The Magazine of Sustainable Design.
